SUPPORT ON THE HOME FRONT In June of 2009, my husband, Robert, deployed to Iraq. He was gone almost a year. While he had the honor of serving and fighting for our country, I honored him by holding down the fort at home and raising our four kids. Three months prior to his deployment we prepared for any issues that might arise while he was gone. We checked the details on our house, cars, finances, and prepared lots and lots As a Military Spouse, you learn to do things yourself. You learn this through moves to a new base or country every two to four years. It seems like by the time you get unpacked, the kids start their new school, and you figure out your way around town…BAM!...you’re moving again. The routine (if you can call it that) is really hard. The support of Smoky Hill Vineyard has really helped me through a tough time. My family has been attending Smoky Hill Vineyard for almost two years. During this time, I’ve met some amazing people and made some wonderful friends, including a friend named Jesus. He has shown me His love, mercy and grace. He has been with me, holding my hand and head high. During Robert’s deployment, Jesus assured me that I would make it through. With my trust in Him, I humbled myself and asked for help. From that point, SHV helped in taking care of all the things that were going wrong, including helping with my house and car. Smoky Hill Vineyard even went beyond that in blessing us through the holidays and with prayers and words of encouragement sent to my husband through letters, emails, and care packages. I am glad to say that Robert made it home from Iraq. We are getting back to normal life.
